It is best to be familiar with HTML and writing / deciphering HTML code. You don’t need to be a top-notch “I do it all in Notepad” kinda person - just being able to open up a text editor and understand the code is enough. Copy / Paste knowledge is helpful too.

If you’re a website owner, web developer or just a company looking to make your web presence more noticeable then you might be considering buying a template. You could go out on a limb and get a custom one. Pre-made templates work great, although there are much more opportunities with a custom template.

Depending on what you need the template for, if you are just making a persona site or maybe a mini site then having a pre-made template is not that bad. You can always edit the images and even colors. Some pre-made templates have already been search engine optimized as well, that’s always a plus if you looking to gain ranking in the search engines. Yet with all of the availability you still don’t have the flexibility you could have.

Custom templates can be acquired from freelance designer or maybe even a studio if you have a bigger budget. You can get quality and flexibility that you’re looking for from both, which one you choose matters very little as long as you’re comfortable with them. It’s important to tell your designer exactly what you want before he/she starts, doing so will avoid extra charges and/or wasting time. Always remember to ask for the original design files after completion.

MySpace is starting to institute a quality control system that will frown upon commercially drawn pages, and thus you want to try to create a MySpace page this is at least in some part not entirely commercial. This means toning down your offerings, and at least pretending like you are trying to contribute something to the MySpace community beyond attempting to sell people on goods, and services.

Part of profiting on MySpace is understanding the different roles of each member, and guest on the site. For example, if you are placing a viral video on MySpace, and you want everyone to see it, it must be part of a friend post, not under your videos section, because your videos section is for members viewing only. This means nobody else will be able to see the video but members, and friends of your space. This is one little example of how important it is to keep up with the rules, to make sure you know how to maximize the effectiveness of your site.

How would you like to raise your search engine rankings with a single link? This new type of link can increase the power of normal linking.

For example, lets say your web page has a hypothetical ranking of 4 points. If you put 2 links leaving that page, each destination page would be passed on a ranking value of 2 points.

Or, if you put 4 links leaving the same page (which started with a ranking of 4), each destination page, would be passed a ranking value of 1. Obviously, the higher the ranking value you can pass on to the target page, the better.

Now what if you had 10 links but only 1 of them was crawlable by the search engine spiders? Now you can aim all 4 ranking points like a laser, and pass them through to any page you like.

It’s all the rage now…. dynamic one way links. To humans, they look like blue clickable hypertext. But the search engines can’t see them or crawl them. That way, your whole site remains navigable, but you boost only the pages you want.

If anything could be called a classic laptop site it would be Laptopical.com. It’s been providing laptop news for years and been a good source for laptop reviews through a really simplistic and reader-friendly, if one-dimensional design. The site has retained its simplicity throughout the redesign, but now it’s easier to navigate and sports some additional eye-candy. I do enjoy the discrete Flash implementations.

The site’s strong side has never been its design, though, but rather it’s content. Laptopical has never been pretentious or, like some computer sites, written in a language incomprehensible to anyone but hardware experts. Essentially, your average granddad could browse through this site and find something of interest. The reviews have also been sorted according to brands, so that you can head straight for the HP laptops or whatever brand you prefer.
